Our Astronauts Were Greeted by Dolphins When They Splashed Do

As soon as our astronauts splashed down, they were greeted by a pod of five Dolphins who swam around the capsule with some enthusiasm while the recovery crew arrived. They appeared curious and unafraid as a larger ship arrived to pluck the capsule out of the water …. their water.

It is a delight that another Earth species was paying attention to this activity. Maybe they heard the sonic boom of the Crew Dragon’s re-entry.

I spend a lot of hours on my computer keeping up with the spacecraft business and count this as one of the most memorable moments. That day, our people were in the International Space Station, drifting alone in a capsule in space as the de-orbit maneuvers took place, on a fiery plunge through the atmosphere and finally a parachute ride and splashdown into the tropical waters of the Gulf of Mexico. And what was there to greet them? Dolphins.
